Supplier Quality Engineer

As the Supplier Quality Engineer you will develop the capability, capacity and quality in Sentinelle’s supplier base. You will maintain and continue to grow supplier relationships and ensure supplier quality. This role provides a growth opportunity with a rapidly growing entrepreneurial company, working with a broad array of manufacturing technologies including some R&D of new materials and methods.
Responsibilities
- Use in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control to select and control key elements in outsourced components.
- Drive quality control upstream to prevent quality problems by addressing root causes.
- Lead manufacturing validation activities.
- Help attract government funding to assist Ontario manufacturers re-tool for work in medical devices.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure compliance to specifications.
- Participate in supplier selection process - analyze and minimize supply chain risk.
- Coach and audit suppliers' adherence to ISO 13485 and FDA GMP standards.
- Assist suppliers in developing quality and capacity in their supply.
- Ensure timely and effective execution of supplier corrective and preventative actions.
- Utilize existing network of contacts of Ontario-based manufacturers to develop supplier capacity.
- Participate in ongoing R&D efforts developing novel composite materials and processes, as well as other high-tech manufacturing advances.
- Use strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with suppliers.
- Initiate programs to develop turnkey outsourcing of mature products.
- Periodic travel to supplier sites (25% of the time) across North America.
- Perform other duties/special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
- Strong quality systems background.
- Knowledge of metalworking processes (particularly welding and machining).
- Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication and relationship building skills.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Proven problem solving ability.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills.
- Results-oriented; able to execute in a timely fashion in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent project management and multi-tasking skills.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Engineering degree or diploma.
Desired
- Experience in medical device manufacturing particularly MRI.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, particularly ISO 13485:2003, ISO 9001 and FDA GMP.
- Experience with RF or microwave electronics in manufacturing.
- Experience with MRP systems.
- Experience with low-volume, high-mix manufacturing an asset.
- Experience working with suppliers from "mom and pop" size up to large contract manufacturers.
- Experience with new product introduction.
- Experience with developing and documenting new manufacturing operations.
